UBO Confirmation 2026 in Cyprus: Deadline 31 December

Once a year every Cyprus company has to log in to the UBO register and confirm its beneficial owners, even if nothing has changed. This year's window opens on 1 October.

The Registrar of Companies has announced the 2026 confirmation period. Between 1 October and 31 December 2026, every company registered under the Companies Law, Cap. 113, every European public company (SE) and every cooperative must confirm the details held on the register of beneficial owners.

What has to be confirmed

Whichever applies to the company:

  • The beneficial owners, the natural persons who ultimately own or control it
  • The senior managing officials, where no beneficial owner could be identified
  • The due diligence entry, where that is what was filed

The confirmation is done online only, through the register at ubo.meci.gov.cy. If the details are correct you confirm them. If they are not, you correct them first and then confirm.

It applies even if nothing changed

This is the part most companies miss. The confirmation is a separate annual step. A company whose ownership has not moved since formation still has to do it.

Three situations to watch

A change during the window. If you file a new entry or a change between 1 October and 31 December, you make the change first and then still confirm by 31 December.

A change after you confirm. The confirmation is done once in the period. If something changes after you have confirmed, you file the change within the usual 45 days, but you do not need to confirm again.

New companies. A new company has 90 days from registration to make its first entry. If that deadline falls inside the window, the company must also confirm by 31 December.

The fine

If the confirmation is not done by 31 December 2026, the company is liable to a fine of €100, plus €50 for each further day, up to a maximum of €5,000.

Directors and managers can be jointly liable with the company unless they can show they took reasonable care over compliance. At €50 a day, a confirmation forgotten over the New Year reaches the cap within about three months.

What we suggest

Do it in October rather than December. Doing it early leaves time to fix anything that turns out to be out of date: a new passport, a changed address, a transfer that was never filed.

If we act as your company secretary or accountant, we will handle the confirmation for you. If not, we can still do it. We need your authorisation, and a copy of any document that has changed since the last filing.
